Russian-linked site leaks Russian “Plan for Peace” under guise of Trump Administration
Newsweek republishes it without questioning the source
Strana.news ran an unsourced and anonymous article claiming that Ukrainian government officials are “actively discussing a Peace plan for ending the war in 100 days compiled by the Trump Administration.” This article was then picked up uncritically by Newsweek and many Russian news outlets.
No one in the Trump Administration acknowledges this plan and none of the articles have any named sources.
This “Peace Plan” looks a lot like proposed Russian Peace Plans and this leak looks like standard Russian media manipulation.
Strana.news is a Russian and Ukrainian-language news-site published from Austria by Igor Guzhva. For many years, Mr Guzhva was closely aligned with the political party of Viktor Yanukovitch, who fled Ukraine to Russia in 2014. Additionally, Mr Guzhva worked extensively for numerous Russian news sites controlled by organizations close to President Putin. He is under criminal investigation in Ukraine for blackmail and other crimes. He was placed under sanctions by the Ukrainian government for his work at Strana.ua. These sanctions were upheld in Switzerland in 2021.
In short, Mr Guzhva appears to be part of the Russian government propaganda team.
Oddly, Newsweek ran an article about the leaked “Peace Plan” without mentioning the questionable authority of the news source which ran the original article. The Newsweek article was similarly unsourced.
The details of the “Peace Plan” follow closely to the Russian government’s proposed peace plan. It includes Ukraine retreating from the territory in Russia which it occupies, but Russia can continue to occupy Ukrainian territory and in fact, “officially recognize the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over them.” It would lift sanctions on Russia and give Russia a veto over NATO.
Not only does this “Russian Peace Plan” infringe on Ukrainian Sovereignty by ceding territory and giving the Russian government control of Ukraine’s foreign policy. This “Russian Peace Plan” infringes on American Sovereignty by granting the Russian government a veto on American military alliances.
The American government can not outsource our Alliances to Moscow.
This is pure Russian propaganda, not an Trump Peace Plan.
