In the days before Passover, the Jewish Festival of Freedom, the American Ukraine PAC delivered Matzah to Jewish members of Congress and key staffers on the Hill.
Passover celebrates the Jews’ journey from slavery in Egypt to freedom. It is marked by eating Matzah, the unleavened bread, made in haste during the Exodus from Egypt.
Recent news out of Ukraine has been devastating. Russian ballistic missiles targeted and killed several dozen Ukrainian worshippers outside a Church on Palm Sunday.
Religious freedom has blossomed in Ukraine since the end of Soviet rule in Ukraine in 1991. The Jewish community has thrived. There are more than 50 communities and dozens of new schools and synagogues. The Russian invasion threatens the revitalized Jewish community and every other religious group in Ukraine.
Ukrainian agricultural feeds the world. Ukraine is also the largest exporter of Matzah outside of Israel. In contrast, Russia purposely bombs Ukrainian ships carrying grain causing food shortages in the Middle East and Africa.
The Jews first celebrated Passover while still enslaved in Egypt, but with the faith that they would soon be free.
Ukrainian Matzah is a symbol of the belief that Ukraine too will soon be free and our prayers that Ukrainian Christians can attend Easter Services without another Russian missile attack.
