Most political donations are wasted money. We want to show you the exception, and the math behind it.
The problem with political giving
A competitive Senate race can cost $30 million. A House seat runs $3 million and up. Against numbers like that, an ordinary donation changes nothing. It doesn’t tip the result, and it doesn’t earn you a relationship worth having. That is why AmUkr PAC stays out of most races entirely. We would rather wait, see who wins, and build from there.
But there is one exception, and it is the closest thing American politics has to an underpriced asset.
The opportunity: safe seats, blank slates
We look for three things at once:
• An open Senate seat, with no incumbent, so the field is wide open.
• In a state that isn’t in play. Montana voted for Trump by 20 points. Illinois voted Democratic by 11. The winning party is known months in advance.
• A first-time candidate with no foreign-policy record. Someone coming straight out of state government who has never had to take a public position on Ukraine.
Put those together and you get a candidate almost certain to win, with no fixed views to argue against. Reach them early, while the campaign still needs friends, and the relationship forms on your terms instead of a lobbyist’s. A Senate term runs six years, not the two you get in the House. One well-timed introduction can pay off for the better part of a decade.
The four seats
We found four that fit, two from each party. Back one, several, or all four. Ukraine has never been a partisan cause, and we do not treat it as one.
• South Carolina (R): Sen. Darline Graham Nordone, sister of the late Lindsey Graham, now carrying his sanctions work forward.
• Montana (R): Kurt Alme, a budget and prosecution figure with no voting record on foreign affairs.
• Illinois (D): Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton. A September event with the Chicago community is already booked.
• Minnesota (D): Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, eleven years in state government, none of it touching foreign policy.
$10,000 per seat. $40,000 for all four. Give at the higher levels and you are invited to meet the candidate in person. Just tell us who.
What your money actually buys
This is the part most PACs skip. We do not cut a check and disappear. We set the meeting, handle the logistics, and put the local Ukrainian community in the room, because they are the ones who will carry the relationship for the next six years. In Washington the rule is simple: bring voters or bring money. We bring both.
