8/21: Ukraine News Round-up

A great op-ed in WSJ by Rep Jake Auchincloss (D-MA4): How Biden Can Support Ukraine’s Offensive

Rep Auchincloss highlights Biden’s support for Ukraine but notes where the Administration can do more to help ensure Ukraine’s victory.

First, define victory: a secure eastern border, freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, and imminent Ukrainian accession to the European Union.

Second, authorize the use of U.S.-made fighter jets and ballistic missiles to disable Russian oil-refining sites as well as greenlight Ukrainian strikes on launch, logistics and troop-staging sites in Russia.

Third, Additional sanctions would complement those strikes.

Additionally, Janet Yellen reports that she is close to a deal with Group of Seven and European Union leaders to lend Ukraine $50 billion, serviced by interest on the $300 billion in frozen Russian assets held by wealthy democracies.

Lets hope more Dems challenge the limitations of the Biden Admin in its support for Ukraine.

Russia has taken another US citizen hostage: The Biden Administration traded arms dealers for basketball players and killers for journalists. I can’t imagine anyone is surprised that doing trades with hostage takers leads to more hostages being taken. (Sadly, I assume it also leads to Russian assassins in the West being more emboldened if they assume they will be welcomed home a hero in 3 to 4 years.

And Speaker Johnson speaking clearly on how Russia Tortures Christians in Ukraine:
